How to apply We have designed our application process to be clear and supportive, so you know what to expect at each stage: Consider joining one of our Online Information Sessions These half hour sessions are a good way to learn more about what we do, the impact we make and the different ways to support us. They happen live, online and you get the chance to meet a member of The Girls’ Network staff and ask questions. It's a good place to start your journey with us before deciding if you want to apply to volunteer. You can also take a look around our website and read our Mentoring FAQs to learn more about the mentoring role, how we work and the impact we make. Watch our 'Guide to Mentoring' videoIf you are ready to apply, start by watching our 5-minute ‘guide to mentoring’. We ask everyone to watch this video before applying, as it shares some really important information that we want you to be aware of. Submit your applicationComplete our online application form. This helps us understand who you are, your interests, and why you want to be part of our mission. You’ll also be asked to provide two references. Before applying, please note: The Girls Network's 1-to-1 mentoring programmes are available only in specific areas and regions, based on school and college demand for our programmes. Submitting an application does not guarantee a volunteer mentoring placement near your location. We will share available programme regions with applicants as soon as we are able. Thank you for your understanding. Your 'Match Chat'If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to a short conversation with one of our colleagues at Inclusive Volunteering, an organisation who supports our volunteer recruitment. DBS and reference checksIf we think you are the right fit for the mentor role, we’ll begin your DBS check and online ID verification. The time this takes to process can vary, and if you have lived outside the UK in the last five years, there may be additional checks required. We’ll make sure you have all the information you need when you reach this stage. TrainingOnce your DBS and reference checks have been sent off, you’ll be invited to attend one of our online training sessions to meet some of our team, learn about our safeguarding practices and help you prepare you for your role as a mentor. Training is online, over 2 and a half hours, with various dates and times are available through the working week. Ready to mentorOnce your DBS result and references are returned, your Regional Programme Lead will reach out to officially welcome you into our mentoring community. Matching and getting startedIf the location, dates and timings of your local programme work for you, you will be invited to start mentoring at your matched school. Please be aware The application process can take up to 12 weeks, so please make sure you apply early so we have enough time to complete everything and get you ready to begin your mentoring journey in the autumn.
