At The Girls’ Network, we know how vital it is for young women to explore a wide range of career pathways and discover industries they might never have considered before. Opening up these possibilities helps broaden horizons, build confidence, and challenge preconceived notions about the professional world. This blog post shares reflections from a recent careers event hosted by our valued partner, AXA XL, where our ambassadors had the opportunity to step inside the dynamic world of insurance and risk management.

Ever wondered how film actors are insured? Or how a TV show like The Summer I Turned Pretty protects its cast, crew, and equipment while filming?

Behind the scenes of every film, concert, sporting event, and even fashion show is an industry that helps manage risk and keep everything running smoothly: insurance.

In April, two of our ambassadors had the opportunity to step inside the world of insurance during a careers event at AXA XL’s London office on Gracechurch Street.

The event included:

• Opportunity to meet insurance professionals and learn about a range of roles across the industry

• Insight into different career pathways and how to start a career in insurance

• Q&A panel featuring professionals from across the sector

• Hands-on activities exploring key areas of insurance:

  • Underwriting – understanding how insurers assess and price risk

  • Insurance Claims – learning how organisations are supported when unexpected events happen

For many attendees, the event opened their eyes to a career path they had never considered before.

Ambassador, Rodhoshi, found the experience both informative and inspiring:

It was a great opportunity for me to get insight into the world of insurance and risk and connect with industry expectations. Additionally I was able to learn the different pathways into insurance such as through apprenticeships, entry roles and informal interviews/coffee chats. One thing that was said in the event that resonated with me was that no matter what I’m passionate about, there will always be an insurance sector within that passion, which made me more interested in looking into careers in insurance.
