the ambassador community logoAt The Girls’ Network, we believe in the power of connection and community. That belief came to life at our recent virtual session, where young people from across the country came together to learn more about the Ambassador Community - a network for girls and young women aged 16-28 who have completed our mentoring programme.

The session was a chance to hear from current ambassadors, explore opportunities for personal and professional growth, and connect with others at a similar stage in life.

What the ambassadors shared

We were joined by four inspiring ambassadors - Evie, Ishrat, Maham, and Olivia - who shared honest and powerful reflections on their journeys. They spoke about how being part of the Ambassador Community had helped them:

  • Build confidence

  • Speak at major events, including at Number 10 Downing Street

  • Appear on platforms like the BBC

  • Find career direction

  • Expand their networks

  • Discover opportunities they never knew existed

Their stories showed that there’s no single path to success - and that being part of our supportive community can open doors and build confidence and self-belief.

Who joined the session

The young people who attended were at all different stages of life and education. Some were finishing GCSEs and planning to study maths, chemistry, biology, or further maths at college, with ambitions in medicine, pharmacy, or structural engineering.

Many were in sixth form or doing A-levels, exploring careers in law, architecture, psychology, computer science, business, and coding.

Others were already at university, studying degrees like cybersecurity, nursing, psychology, and modern languages. A few were on professional routes - such as solicitor apprenticeships or law conversion courses - working towards careers as barristers or solicitors.

Some attendees were already in work and looking to grow their skills, change direction, or gain experience in specialist fields - including paediatric nursing, criminal psychology, or roles in tech.

In their own words - hopes for the future

Attendees shared their goals and questions in the chat and follow-up emails:

I’ve just finished my GCSEs and I’m looking for work experience opportunities.

I want to become a clinical psychologist and study in Manchester or Bristol.

I'm not sure yet - maybe medicine or law - but I want a career that’s people-focused.

I’m a first-year solicitor apprentice and hope to qualify in six years.

I want to go into coding, so I'm focusing on building a portfolio and getting experience.

I’m studying psychology at uni, hoping to work in drug discovery or forensic psychology.

Their ambitions were wide-ranging, and their eagerness to learn and grow stood out. The session helped them see that they weren’t alone - and that they didn’t need to have everything figured out straight away.

What they took away

One young person emailed straight after the event to say:

Just came from the workshop and wanted to say it was very insightful. It was amazing hearing the girls speak about the opportunities they have experienced, having joined The Girls’ Network Ambassador Community - and I would love to be a part of this.

Many others said they felt newly inspired and more confident about taking their next steps.

It was amazing hearing the girls speak about their experiences...I’d love to be a part of this.

I didn’t realise how many different routes were possible - like apprenticeships or speaking roles.

Now I feel more confident about putting myself forward.

A key message from the event

You don’t need to have it all figured out - just showing up is enough and our community is here to support you wherever you are on your journey.

That’s what the Ambassador Community is all about - learning as you go, building real experience, and discovering what’s possible with the support of others.

What Ambassadors want more of

Attendees shared great ideas for future sessions, including:

  • Public speaking & confidence

  • Interview skills & networking

  • Creative careers, freelancing & entrepreneurship

  • Psychology, criminology, STEM & coding

  • Work experience, university prep & apprenticeships

  • Hosting or speaking at events

  • Applying for internships or placements

  • Getting mentoring and career guidance

  • Meeting others on similar paths

Want to get involved?

If you're aged 16-28 and have taken part in our mentoring programme, you can join the Ambassador Community too. It’s a space to grow your confidence, explore new opportunities, and connect with others who understand where you're coming from - and where you want to go.
